New School Term in Japan! Cherry Blossoms, Uniforms & More

April is considered a time for “new beginnings,” and schools nationwide hold entrance ceremonies and opening ceremonies. In particular, elementary and junior high school students wear new uniforms and attend the ceremony with their parents, marking an important milestone.

Randoseru (Traditional Backpacks):
Elementary school students carry a special type of Japanese backpack called a randoseru. First graders, in particular, wear brand-new randoseru while holding hands with their parents on the way to school.
